When Abiel's father, William, died in 1769, it was
Abiel and his mother, Thankful, who received most of
his property which they sold on Mar 14, 1771. This was
the start of Abiel's real estate career. The following
is a list of his transactions:
1. Apr. 20, 1771. Abiel of Killingly, CT. bought 3
parcels in Shutesbury, MA from Benjamin & Jean Green.
2. May 22, 1771, he sold 6 acres of the above.
3. May 4, 1777, Abiel & Elizabeth of Shutesbury, MA,
sold 113+ ac. in Shutesbury to S. Wild.
4. Jan. 10, 1778, Abiel, this time from Worthington,
MA, bought 100 acres in W. from James Warren, of
Deerfield, MA
5. May 15, 1782, Abiel, still of Worthington, sold his
mortgaged land there to Nathan Morgan of Windham, CT.
6. May 15, 1783, Rutland Co., VT...Abiel, of
Clarendon, bought 1/2 share in Shrewsbury and then
sold it to his brother Asahel.
7. Apr. 7, 1783, Rutland Co., VT...Abiel witnessed a
purchase by his brother Asahel, of Clarendon.
8. Oct. & Dec. 1783, Abiel, of Clarendon, VT, bought &
sold 1 Right in TWP of Cornwall; sale was to Samuel
Crosby, of Worthington, Hampshire Co., MA.
9. Sept. 20, 1785, Chittenden Co., VT...Abiel of
Clarendon, bought land in Charlotte TWP. As a resident
of Charlotte, he sold the parcel in 1788.
10. There were numerous transactions thru 1794.
Other than that, he also served in the Revolutionary
War from 1775-1777 as a private with several militia
groups, and he served at Prospect Hill, Deerfield, and
Ticonderoga. In Aug. , 1777, as a private in Lt. C.
Webster's Company, he marched to reinforce the army at
Bennington. In 1798abiel helped to choose a
representative for Congress. Shortly thereafter he
moved his family to Onondaga, New York . Abiel died in
in 1807 in Bennington, Vermont.
